Bulk Kanekalon Fiber to Clip-in Pieces [09 Jul 2008|12:06am]

So I've been determined to figure out a decent way to turn bulk kanekalon fiber into clip-in extension pieces.

I worked on it all day, and several injuries later (steam-burned hands and feet, raw fingers, a close call with sewing through my hand), I finally managed to come up with this:

...to this rant, I give you this:

I got the blank from here which, conveniently enough, was hosted here, on PHOTOBUCKET.

And so, without further ado...

Hey girls and guys~ I've been lurking this comm. for awhile and finally decided to post. :o I've been trying to get my hair pink for the longest time and finally after countless fail attempts (never using RAW Pink dye again!) I did it!

Now I didn't get my hair as light as I would have liked but I was just fed up with waiting and went for it. It turned out pretty good and with another bleaching I'll be exactly where I want to be with my hair. :3

Hey Fine Angelenos:

Do y'all know where I could find a trenchcoat for cheap in the next few days? My sketch comedy group needs one for a (very funny) scene. Any recs? Thrift stores? Would they be open on Friday night (that's the time I have to go shop).

Many thanks in advance! :)

I'm new I stumbled upon this beautiful place looking for examples of whole headed pinkies :)

Well my hair is a light blonde and long and I bought Color Feind's Pop Pink, I know the line has a bad rep but not long ago I used their Grind Green and it was very bright and stayed in just as long as I'd like. I really havent seen any pictures of anyone who's used this color before though if anyone has any experience with it to share it'd be much appriciated.

My Natural color:

I'll post the pink tomorrow!

Does such a place exist on the Westside: Venice, Santa Monica, Playa area?

So far my best luck has been in the Valley which is too far.

Fencing [08 Jul 2008|04:42pm]

los_angeles

[boffo]
My wife and I are interested in taking beginning fencing lessons. Can anyone recommend places on the West Side that offer them?

I doubt we could afford private lessons, so some sort of series of low-cost group lessons would be preferable. We would prefer SCA-style fencing to formal foil/epee/saber fencing, but if the formal style is all we can find we would settle for it. And we aren't interested in other aspects of SCA, such as dressing up and historical recreations, so we wouldn't want to do SCA-style fencing lessons if they would require us to do that.

We aren't willing to drive all over town during rush hour, so please don't recommend any places that are too far from West LA/Santa Monica.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Is there a pet cremation that does pickup? I'd research myself but I can barely even get my thoughts together to use google. I want him picked up today if possible...

edit
Thanks to all the links and well wishes. I didn't want to wait for tomorrow so I just took him to my vet so they could cremate him. With this heat, I didn't want to wait -.-

Here's an odd question: [08 Jul 2008|03:25pm]

[stanleynickels]
Where can I go in the middle of the night to read AND get drunk?

Next month a terrible and yet strangely addictive book is coming out and some friends jokingly made a drinking game about what the book would be about. Now we're thinking about actually going through with it on the night of the midnight release. These are mostly internet friends from a community here on LJ so a location other than my apartment would be preferred.

Week of humble connections [08 Jul 2008|01:35pm]

halcyonpink

Sometimes I feel like I publish things into a huge vacuum. And, actually, I slipped into that mindset earlier in the week.
“I don’t promote enough.”
“I don’t work on SEO enough.”
“I don’t get enough views.”

But I found my way back to a peaceful headspace. I reminded myself that I publish because I love to share stories. I enjoy an audience, but it can’t be what motivates me.

Just follow the flow, and let go of the outcome.
From that place, I felt the joy again.

Of course, with perfect cosmic timing, as soon as I let go of the “audience,” I got TWO humbling reminders from the universe:
1) One of my most significant spiritual teachers, Jacob Glass, posted my 4th of July card on his blog.
2) The author of one of my most inspiring spiritual books, Rob Brezsney, linked to me from his newsletter.

Color me tickled pink.

Commute [08 Jul 2008|04:15pm]

los_angeles

[lady_bogside]
Hello all. I live in Washington, DC and am in the process of relocating to LA (or more specifically, Marina del Rey) later this month.

I have an opportunity for a job interview at a place roughly near the Staples Center downtown. I've been looking for work mostly in West LA/Santa Monica for obvious reasons, but this particular job looks interesting. In the event I were to take this position, it would require roughly an 18 mile a day commute each way - 12 miles of which would be on the 10 (each way).

I've spent a lot of time in LA, but rarely driving. My current commute in DC (almost entirely on the subway) takes about an hour door to door, which is average for DC, so it isn't the time that concerns me as much as the traffic in general. Would this be considered an unusually long or tortuous commute, or is this about average for people in the area?
